Irena is 33 years old, lives in Czech Republic and playes 3cushion for many years.
1. You are from Czech Republic. How is billiards there, is it a famous sport?
Billiard in the Czech Republic isn´t much played or a famous sport. Many young people play recreational billard, but they prefer more pool then carom. Carom competitions play only a few hundred players. Just three cushion play, about hundred players.
2. Are there many women in your country, who play 3cushion?
No other woman, besides me, is playing any competition in 3cushion. If women play carom billiard, they play mostly free game on a small table.
3. What do you think about women billiards, if you compare it to men billiards?
I think, that women play a different game than most men, women have a different approach to it, another thought then men. Many people think, when a woman plays against a man, that a woman is in a certain advantage over men: if a woman loses, it's no surprise. But generally, men are more competitive and hate losing, especially to a woman ...
4. What is your goal for this year?
I would like a well-ranked in the Womens World Championship. But I know that the girls are improving year on year, and even now is very difficult to keep up with the best.
5. And what would you like to reach in billiards in the future generally?
Well, in Czech Republic I play (with men) individual or team competitions. At the Championship Individuals I finished between 32 players, our team has advanced to the final tournament of the 6 best teams in the country.
In competition with men it will be enough to me if good players are not considered me a complete outsider :-).
But with the ladies I would like a well-ranked place in the World or European Championship. I am trying to change my game, I would like to make it a positive effect on my performance. Like every year I wonder where and when there will be the next tournament for us and whether I can attend. It is always a challenge for me.
